'I'm pulling out an ass-ton more glitter with blue lipstick to spare,' singer says of added North American dates. By James Montgomery Ke$ha Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Ke$ha's Get $leazy Tour doesn't wrap until May, but the singer is already making plans for a return engagement, announcing a second leg of the jaunt scheduled for this summer. Ke$h is adding more than 30 North American dates to the $leazy trek — beginning on July 26 in Harrington, Delaware, and wrapping on September 20 in Phoenix — giving fans even more opportunities to watch her guzzle blood from a human heart! Party-meisters LMFAO and prodigiously filthy rapper Spank Rock will join her on most dates. "My spring tour sold out so fast, which is amazing, but I want to get to party with errryone. If you are part of my family, my cult of rowdy misfits, come join us!" Ke$ha said in a grammatically adventurous statement on Monday (April 4). "I'm pulling out an ass-ton more glitter with blue lipstick to spare and I'm ready to party with all y'all all summer long. Sh--'s gonna be hot as a mofo ... Miss this and you be missing the biggest dance party of the year!" Indeed. Tickets for most of the new dates will be available beginning April 8 through LiveNation.com, but members of Ke$ha's brand-new official fan club, the Family, will have first crack at tickets starting on April 5. For more information, check out KeshasFamily.com. Ke$ha released her remix album, I Am the Dance Commander + I Command You to Dance, last month, and she is currently crisscrossing the continent on the first edition of Get $leazy. By Chris Harris Chris Cornell Photo: MTV News Former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell has spoken out for the first time about rumors that he's been asked to fill in for Robert Plant on a proposed Led Zeppelin reunion tour. The trek would feature original guitarist Jimmy Page, original bassist John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham taking over on drums for his late father, John Bonham. Cornell has been mentioned — along with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, White Stripes mastermind Jack White and Alter Bridge's Myles Kennedy — as a potential Plant fill-in. Plant has already said that he wouldn't take part in the tour. "I have not been approached so far to fill in for Robert Plant on the upcoming Zeppelin tour, but that isn't to say I won't be," Cornell told MTV News. "I've heard that from about 200 people now, and it might be one of those situations where it's just an online rumor or it might be true. But if you see anyone from Led Zeppelin around, let me know. I think I should actually fill in for Jimmy Page on the Robert Plant/ Alison Krauss tour." Cornell's denial comes just a day after Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford confirmed reports that frontman Steven Tyler recently met with Zeppelin for an impromptu jam session. "They did it for fun," Whitford said during an appearance on the syndicated show "Todd N Tyler Radio Empire." "I actually think Jimmy wanted Steven to come over and play a little bit because I think he was trying to light a fire under Robert." Rumors of a Zeppelin reunion tour have abounded since the iconic band played a single reunion set last year at London's O2 Arena. Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider added fuel to the fire last month when he revealed that the group was thinking of touring, with or without Plant. According to Snider, the rest of the band told Plant, " 'We're all rehearsed, we're ready to go. Here's a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don't do it, we're going out with this kid [Myles Kennedy].' " "And he can sing the sh-- out of Zeppelin," Snider added. "They're going to hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, 'OK,' and step in." In a recent interview, Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought to take over for Plant. "We are trying out a couple of singers," he said. "We want to do it. It's sounding great, and we want to get on and get out there." But Jones insists that he, Page and Bonham aren't interested in finding a Plant clone. "It's got to be right," he said. "There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be onboard." Of course, even if Zeppelin were to approach him, Cornell might be too busy to take over vocals for the band. His upcoming Timbaland-produced solo LP, Scream, will be released within the next few months. Cornell told MTV News last month that some of his fans might consider Scream something of a departure, but he doesn't see it that way. "It makes me happy that there's this perception that I have a group of fans that I'm now sort of throwing a curve at and what their reaction will be," he said. "But I've been in this situation so many times already. When I put out [1999's] Euphoria Morning, my main goal was to create an album that sounded like nothing I'd done in Soundgarden, and I did that. I also had that with Temple of the Dog, where I showed up with songs that weren't necessarily riff-based. And then, of course, the pairing of me and members of Rage Against the Machine had everyone sort of speculating about what that would sound like. "It feels like I've done this so many times that when it's presented to me as being a departure, I feel that's a misconception," he added. "I feel like that's my theme at this point." By MTV News staff President Barack Obama Photo: Comedy Central In partnership with MTV's parent company Viacom and the Get Schooled Foundation, the White House is continuing an annual tradition by hosting the 2011 "Race to the Top Commencement Challenge," a competition among the nation's public high schools that aims to find the school that best prepares its students for college and beyond. However, despite the race's previously announced rules, the competition has extended its deadline to March 11, giving students two more weeks to enter their schools in the competition and win the coveted graduation-day visit from President Obama himself. President Obama shared his excitement over the challenge in a statement that read: "I'm looking for a school that understands the number-one priority is making sure that our kids are learning what they need to succeed in this 21st-century economy." Students can now continue to nominate their schools until March 11 by submitting an application through the White House website. Once entered, the White House and Department of Education will come together to select six finalists, and, along with Viacom's Get Schooled Foundation, will work with those six schools to create short videos that will be featured on WhiteHouse.gov and voted on by the public. The top three vote-getters will then be submitted to President Obama, who will select a winner. "We are excited to partner with the White House again on this important initiative — one that takes a unique approach to getting our youth excited about education," Carl Folta, Viacom's executive vice president of corporate communications, said in a statement. "This campaign does two very important things: It leverages Viacom's compelling entertainment brands to make education appealing and tangible, and it shines a spotlight on a national priority that is the core of our nation's future success." Last year, Michigan's Kalamazoo Central High School beat out more than 1,000 schools to win the inaugural Race to the Top challenge and was rewarded with a surprise appearance by President Obama, who then delivered the commencement speech for graduating seniors. The initial competition was such a success, in fact, that the White House decided to bring it back in 2011, with President Obama personally challenging schools to "share effective strategies on how they are preparing their students to win the future and achieve the goal of having the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020." To enter, head to WhiteHouse.gov and tell President Obama how your school is best preparing students for the future. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Lady Gaga is starting to make this look too easy. Every time Mother Monster releases a new single or video, she smashes some kind of previous record. Apple's iTunes announced on Friday (February 18) that Gaga's "Born This Way" is now officially the fastest-selling single in the history of the iTunes store. And while Apple has historically declined to give out any sales figures for iTunes, it broke with protocol in a statement announcing the record, saying that "Born This Way" has hit #1 in all 23 countries with iTunes stories and sold more than 1 million tracks in just five days. The feat tops a stellar week for Gaga, which included the single shooting straight to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart while becoming the 1,000th song to lead the list in its 52 year history. "It is a tremendous honor," Gaga told the magazine about reaching the chart milestone. "To be the 1000th no. 1 on Billboard ... I would be silly not to say this is the greatest honor of my career. ... I am so humbled and so honored and overwhelmed by the reception to 'Born This Way.' [It] has been so life-changing for me as an artist, and between Billboard and the international number ones and the radio numbers. ... I couldn't be more blessed to have the fans that I have." The first single from Gaga's upcoming album of the same name, due out on May 23, has also opened in a major way at radio, rushing onto the Billboard Radio Songs airplay chart at #6 with a first week audience of more than 78 million, giving Gaga the highest opening for a song since the chart began incorporating all radio formats in 1998. After the record-breaking success of "The Hangover" and the endless speculation about where the sequel would take place, after the casting gossip and the Mel Gibson controversy, after the first photos and the behind-the-scenes set visit, we're about to get our first peek at actual footage from "The Hangover Part II." "We have a teaser trailer that I just finished color for yesterday night, so that'll come out next week," Todd Phillips told MTV News on Friday (February 18) while promoting the DVD release of "Due Date." "And I think it comes out in theaters on 'Hall Pass,' which should be next Friday." It can't come soon enough. The film hits theaters May 26, and up until now, official glimpses at the production have been few and far between. The only reason for the dearth of Warner Bros.-sanctioned material, though, is that Phillips and friends didn't wrap production on the flick that long ago. "We've had, like, one photo out, and that's just because we finished shooting on New Year's Day, and the movie comes out on Memorial Day," the writer/director said. "It's really just a crazy-tight schedule." While Phillips wouldn't dish details about what we'll actually see in the teaser, he did emphasize that fans should temper their expectations: The footage will hardly offer a comprehensive dive into what the film is all about. "It's truly a teaser, so it might end up frustrating more than solving questions," he told us. "I love it. It's a true tease, if that makes sense. It's just one of those things that's gonna make you go, 'OK, let's see what more they have.' It's to pique interest and to remind people what's coming down the pike." Michael Jackson Photo: Time Life Pictures/DMI/Time Life Pictures/Getty Im Between album sales, movie profits, licensing arrangements and lucrative deals for Cirque du Soleil shows, the estate of late King of Pop Michael Jackson has raked in more than $300 million since the singer's shocking death in June 2009. According to TMZ, legal documents released on Thursday reveal that executors of MJ's estate have managed to make a major dent in the more than $400 million in debt that Jackson owed at the time of his death. The first accounting from the executors shows that they have already spent around $159 million paying back various debts, income taxes and other expenses, which include providing support for the pop star's mother, Katherine Jackson, as well as his three young children. "Although there remain unresolved creditor claims, pending litigation and additional challenging business, tax and legal issues, and the estate is not yet in a condition to be closed, the executors have made substantial progress in reducing the estate's debt," the documents state, according to a Reuters report. Two of Jackson's longtime confidants, attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain, were named as administrators in a will sign by the pop icon. In addition to paying to make "substantial improvements" to the Jackson family's Havenhurst estate in Encino, California, the executors also spent an undetermined amount of money on "last illness and funeral and memorial service expenses." Those costs included a $900,000 payment to the Forest Lawn Memorial cemetery where Jackson is buried and $35,000 on expenses described as "costume for memorial." TMZ reported that not only did the famously cash-strapped Jackson have more than $400 million in debt, but his estate also owed more than $40 million to concert promoter AEG tied to the scuttled This Is It Tour, for which MJ was rehearsing when he died unexpectedly. They've also paid $27.2 million in taxes and $4 million in mortgage payments on Jackson's properties. Despite the solid sales of the Michael album and millions of units of the singer's back catalog being sold, as well as the box office of the "This Is It" movie and DVD sales, the estate is not nearly out of the woods. TMZ noted that the administrators have received more than 65 creditors' claims, some of which are subject to "extremely high" interest rates, and there are several outstanding lawsuits against the estate in several countries. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha Photo: Fotonoticias/ Getty Images Ke$ha is being sued by her former managers at DAS Communications for upwards of $14 million, Ken Freundlich, who is representing DAS in the case, confirmed to MTV News. "DAS was Ke$ha's manager since the beginning of 2006, and there was a written agreement, and they worked closely, and sometime in September 2008 [producer] Dr. Luke, for his own personal gain, somehow induced her to breach that contract," Freundlich said. "And she unceremoniously terminated DAS without justification and then ended up with Luke, basically. So we sued Ke$ha for breach of contract and Luke for interference, and that was last year, and the defense's reaction was to try and delay us. They made motions. "The judge denied all their motions, and now we're going forward. We're going to have our day in court," he continued. "And we're going to prove that Dr. Luke induced her to breach the contract. She had no right to do so, and we're gonna get damages from her." Freundlich explained how he and his team came to the $14 million sum, explaining, "We don't know exactly how much, but we assume it's in that range. She's been quite successful. The case is set. It's gonna go on the rest of this year. We're gonna go straight to the trial if we have to." Ke$ha has filed a suit in California against the management team, but Freundlich is confident nothing will come of her claim that they acted as an "illegal talent agent." "That's pending out in California. Even though that case is still pending, I don't think it has any merit," he said. Calls to Ke$ha's legal team and rep were not returned to MTV News by press time. By James Montgomery with MTV News staff Alison Krauss and Robert Plant accept the award for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards on Sunday Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images "I'm bewildered," Robert Plant said onstage as he accepted the Grammy Album of the Year award with Alison Krauss on Sunday night. "In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday." He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because Raising Sand, which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect Grammy album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards. You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his Led Zeppelin days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history. Really, she's the key to Sand's success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music — so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, Sand was released. And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain. And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on Sand. His arrangements are sparse — giving the two voices ample room to breathe — yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified. To date, Sand has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year — "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album. "At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really good record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards."
